COVID Camp Safety Guidelines

Oregon is officially allowing overnight summer camps this summer!!  However, the Oregon Health Authority has yet to announce their COVID Safety guidelines.  This set of guidelines will be the foundation of the COVID Safety Plan that Balance Soccer and Larry Steele Basketball Camps abide by this summer.  As soon as those guidelines are announced I will share another email with an update.

That does not mean that we have not been preparing for camp!  We have guidelines from the CDC and the ACA that we have been using up to this point.  We expect the guidelines from OHA to be somewhat similar.

I have included two valuable links below if you are looking for a riveting read.  Further below I will include some Q&A I've exchanged in recent days but please note that circumstances can change at any moment and we hold the right to adjust our decisions based on the most up to date information.

Answers to Commonly Asked Questions

-Yes, we (Balance Soccer and Larry Steele Basketball camps) will be limiting camp enrollment.  However, we are nowhere near that point right now for the girls camp, given our current enrollment numbers.  The boys camp might reach our cap but we are far short of typical pre COVID camp enrollment numbers.

-Bunkhouse capacity will lower than normal.  We have a general plan and once we have our total numbers (and once OHA announces their guidelines) we will be able to put the final touches on the bunk arrangements.  There are typically somewhere between 12-16 campers per room per bunkhouse, probably 8-10 this year at most.  All bunkbeds.  There are three rooms in each bunkhouse, all with doors to keep the rooms separate and all with their own doors in/outside.  The bunkhouses are quite big and we are going to do everything we can to keep the numbers as small as possible while also allowing friends to all be together.

-We have discussed all options and feel confident that we can accommodate a safe environment for the campers up to a certain number.  There are also plenty of permanent platform tents available.  Ideally all campers will be able to fit in the bunkhouses.  Once again, the girls should have plenty of space given our anticipated enrollment totals.

-There are plenty of windows that will help with ventilation.  I imagine plenty of fans as well.

-Meals will be rotated within pods.  Soccer and basketball kids will be kept separate within their own pods.  Each group will have their own bathrooms and showers.  We will be hiring plenty of folks to help us clean.  We will be eating most meals outside under big tents and the open air barn house.

-Masks will certainly be used and required most of the time; when in lines, when competing directly with other players, when in bunkhouses, aside from sleeping.  Cedar Ridge is a huge facility with plenty of space to occupy many groups for some fresh air time. But mask usage will be enforced.

-At the moment we are not requiring tests beforehand, however, we have discussed this and may enforce such a practice should we see a spike in COVID. Please no! We will take temperatures as campers arrive and we will have a COVID safety compliance staff member on site.

-The swimming pool policy will be reconsidered in the coming months after receiving more guidelines from CDC, OHA and ACA.

-I don’t have a specific date for when I would be canceling camp but am willing to wait it out.  I feel confident camp will happen.

-I want anyone that is sending their kid away to camp to know that they will be taken care of and I’m sure plenty of parents have the same questions you did.  Please let me know if you have anything you’d like to discuss.  It’s no problem whatsoever.

Balance Soccer Camp Refund Policy

Balance Soccer expects that camp registration fees will be paid at the time of registration, unless prior arrangements have been made.

If you choose to cancel or leave a camp session for any reason non COVID-19 related:

  • 30 or more days prior to the camp session starting date: Balance Soccer will retain $100 for administration and processing fees.

  • 29 days or less prior to the camp session starting date through summer camp start date: Balance Soccer is unable to offer any refunds or credits.

Covid-19 Cancellation Policy

Balance Soccer has updated the Summer Camp Cancellation Policy for the 2021 camp season in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. It is our goal to ensure camp families will not be financially impacted by cancelled programs, and will be supported if illness or any other unforeseen COVID-19 related hardship is affecting your family.

Campers are eligible for a full 100% refund for all summer camp programs if:

  • Balance Soccer cancels or reschedules any summer program due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • Families are adversely impacted by COVID-19 (job loss, illness or suspected exposure to COVID-19, caring for sick family members, etc.) and have to cancel their registration.

Check out the fun
